Background Information For Purchasing Honeycomb Calcite

The Honeycomb Calcite stone shown on this site are for sale by Desert Homestead Stone Products LLC. Some information to consider when purchasing is as follows:

All sizes are approximate due to the varying shape of each piece of this natural stone. Unless specificed by the customer, or, described herein, all stone will require additional work to ready for sale. Such finishing may include: Polishing, acid-washing, cutting and grinding. The customer is welcome to specify custom finishing or sculpting: Additional fees may apply depending on the scope of the customization.

The stone may contain natural defects such as pockets. inclusions of other stone or ancient clay. These imperfections usually add to the beauty and uniqueness of the stone. Also note that this stone is vulnerable to UV degradation of color (lightens) over the years if in direct sunlight. A liquid UV coating will provide some degree of protection. Indoor placement of the stone with use of artifical lighting, candles and UV-protected windows will maintain the stone's color integrity.

Payment is my check, money order, or via PayPal on the Internet. Shipping is not included in the price. Some stones weighing more than 100-lbs will require custom packaging and trucking services. Free delivery is possible in the Phoenix and Tucson areas of Arizona. Please allow 4-8 weeks to complete finishing of the stone, packing and shipping.

Two-Face Polished Slab (Item S16)

It's hard to take your eyes off this slab. Honed and polished on two sides, its translucency allows the color and cell-structure to stand out.

This piece of Honeycomb Calcite measures 17" x 18" and weighs 30-lbs. The slab is only about 1-1/4" thick and although it can stand on its own, it may require some type of additional support to keep it from falling over should it get bumped.

The opposite side is equally stimulating and the thick white lines add to its distinct character. Ready for sale. Priced at $285.

Small Slab

This small slab measures measures about 9" x 6" and is about 1/2" thick. It has rich honeycomb cell structure punctuated by distinct lines. It stands on its own and can be lighted from behind by a small tee-light or votive canle. For sale at $23.

Obtuse Triangle - Like Slab with Frosted Top

This unique slab sports a frosted top, parallel lines and layed depth of color. The stone measures approximately 17" in length by 7" tall and weighs 13.5 lbs.

The back side (photo below) requires additional work to remove more of its thick white outer layer. Once this layer is removed or thinned, additional light will come translate through the stone. Bottom is cut flat for placement on mantle, counter or table.

Large Slab (Item S1)

This Honeycomb Calcite slab measures approximately 22" in length by 17.5" high and weighs 92 pounds. This front face requires polishing to finish.

Parallelogram-Like Slab (Item S2)

This beautiful slab with gradient hues from white to orange and distinct lines is 21" in length by 15" in height. Its weight is 59 pounds.

Notice the dark mass at the base of the photo below. That's ancient clay adhered to the bottom of the stone.

Work still to do on this piece: Cut the bottom flat so the stone stands plum. Polish the front face (top photo); and acid-wash the back side (photo above) to reveal more detail and texture.

5-Sided with Lines (Item S3)

Another large cell beauty with one prominent vertical line with bisecting horizontal lines. The size is approximately 24" by 17" and weighing 76-lbs.

Horizontal Slab (Item S4)

This predominately horizontal slab is approximately 31"-long, 12" in

height and weighs 64-lbs. The piece has the look of a mountain range

and two prominent bands of horizontal waves across its length.

Below is the completed polished flat front surface. The colors range from whitish yellow to honey-orange - Beautiful!

The back-side, photo below will require sand-blasting to

remove the outer skin and allow light to pass through.

After sandblasting, grinding and chiseling most of the white outer skin of the stone was removed to allow light to pass and bring-out the color. It was a hard day working this stone - but worth it!

Horizontal Slab 2 (Item S5)

This horizontal slab weighs in at 134-lbs and has a length of about 34" and a height of 15". It has a large diaganol line embellishment.

Right Triangle (Item S6)

This rectangular piece provides a uniform glow on the yellow side of orange. The white calcite lines in this piece tend to be less pronounced. The length of this stone is approximately 14"; the height is about 7", with a thickness of about 1-3/4". It's weight is 13-lbs. This slab has been cut and honed on both sides.

The finished polished piece is shown below...with outside ambient light and illuminated with candles (bottom photo).

Small Rectangular Slab (Item S9)

This small rectangular slab measures 8" x 12" and weighs 24-lbs.

The base will be cut flat and is wider at the bottom and tapers to about an inch thick at the top. The front side will be polished. The back side (right photo), will be sandblasted to improve translucency. The price for Item S9 is $93.

Mantle Slab (Item S11)

A nice slab for a mantle, the length of this piece is approx. 26" and an average height of about 8". The weight is 38-lbs.

The back side (photo below) will be sandblasted to allow more light through.

The front side will be polished to reveal white chalky lines and rich orange-honey colors of this fine piece. The finished price for Item S11 is $190.

Small Rectangular Slab (Item S10)

This 12"-tall by 7"-wide small slab has a color range from white-to-yellow-to-honey/orange. It weights approximately 15-lbs. The bottom will be cut flat, the back side sandblasted and the front polished. Affordably priced at $75.

Roundish End-Cut (Item S12)

The front side of this stone will be polished. I like the back side almost as it is, but will require a mild acid-wash (photo below). should be the side displayed since it will look awesome with the imperfected look of what remains of the outer skin.

The bottom will be cut flat so the piece can stand on its side. The edges will be ground smooth to give it a more finished look.

Item S12 is 16" in length, 10" in height and weighs 14-lbs. Finished price: $90

Small Rectangular Boulder (Item S13)

This piece is actually a small boulder, with dimensions of 9" by 12" by approx 2-4" thick. Weight = 35-lbs.

Notice the top photo. It shows rich colors peeking-through the outer skin. This piece may be perfect for a sculptor, so I may not do any finishing on it until a buyer specificies what they want for a finish.
The as-is price for this stone is $140. Call for quote for custome finishing.

Dense Honeycomb Triangle (Item S15)

Item S15 is 14" by 14"and weighs approximately 21-lbs.

This piece has beautiful honeycomb lines and a uniform dense orange color. It requires strong backlighting to illuminate to its full potential.
